Music - Hall of the Mountain King

The term`s focus for music at KS2 was ‘The Hall of the Mountain King’ by Edvard Grieg. It is one of the pieces used as part of the BBC  ‘Take 10 Pieces’ which has been compiled to encourage children to explore classical pieces of music and interpret them in a variety of ways.
After listening to the piece of music each class then explored it in different ways. Jay Class created a music story which showed Peers walking through the mountain. They also used it in their creative writing. Woodpecker decided to write poems based around the story that Grieg used. Hawk class thought about the different moods that music can create and the colours and patterns associated with it. They then listened to the music and created their own images that reflected when the music meant to them. Osprey Class thought about the drama of the music and how it changed through the story telling. They then linked it to the traditional tale of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and retold it using voices and instruments to match the moods within the music to enhance the storytelling.
